Süalp Tansan, the first Turkish doctor to receive the "Doctor of the Year" award at Boston University, an honor given to only one doctor annually, said, "Everything is for the homeland," and after 15 years, returned to Türkiye and opened an Oncology Center in Istanbul bearing his own name. Dr. Tansan, who set aside all the opportunities in America while serving as the Director of the Boston University Oncology Center to serve his country and nation, said in his speech at the opening of the Oncology Center, "I learned everything I could in America in this field. I reached the highest point I could as a doctor. Every year, many cancer patients from my own country came to Boston for treatment. Regardless of the opportunities I had there, the excitement and honor of serving my fellow citizens in my own country is something else entirely for me. I am very happy to be providing healing to my own people in my own country.".
Dr. Süalp Tansan, who will now be seeing patients at the Tansan Oncology Center in Teşvikiye, will continue his educational activities at Boston University for one week every two months at the insistence of the university authorities.
